PE and Sport Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to primary schools to strengthen the quality of physical education, sport and physical activity. At Our Lady of the Rosary, we recognise the important role that physical activity plays in children’s overall development. A positive introduction to sport during childhood supports physical health, emotional wellbeing, social confidence and concentration in the classroom. This funding enables us to expand our offer, improve the quality of teaching, and ensure that all children have regular opportunities to be active, learn new skills and enjoy a broad range of sporting experiences.
How the Funding Is Used
The purpose of the PE and Sport Premium is to bring about additional and sustainable improvements in the school’s PE and sport offer. At Our Lady of the Rosary, we use the funding to:
-
increase pupils’ participation in regular physical activity
-
promote healthy, active lifestyles across the school
-
develop staff confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE
-
broaden the range of sports and physical activities available to pupils
-
provide opportunities for pupils to take part in competitive sport
-
support whole-school initiatives such as The Daily Mile
These improvements help us ensure that physical activity is woven into school life and that all pupils can enjoy the benefits of taking part in high-quality sport and PE.
Swimming at Our Lady of the Rosary
Swimming is a key part of the PE curriculum, and all pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 attend swimming lessons taught by a qualified swimming instructor. Through this programme, we aim for all children to:
-
swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
-
use a range of strokes effectively
-
perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Swimming is an important life skill, and we ensure that pupils have the time, tuition and support they need to develop confidence and safety in the water.
Our Commitment
We are committed to creating an environment where physical activity is enjoyable, inclusive and accessible to all children. Through high-quality teaching, a varied sports offer and opportunities for competition and challenge, we aim to foster positive attitudes towards PE and to help every child develop the habits and skills that support a healthy, active lifestyle both now and in the future.
