Traditional Prayers
Prayer is at the heart of our life at Our Lady of the Rosary. Alongside our own spontaneous prayers, we treasure the traditional prayers of the Church, which unite us with Catholics throughout the world and across the centuries. These prayers give children words of faith that they can carry with them throughout their lives.
Our Prayer Progression, which follows the guidance of the Prayer and Liturgy Directory, sets out the traditional prayers that pupils learn and use as they move through the school:
EYFS – The Sign of the Cross, Morning Prayer, End of Day Prayer, Glory Be, Grace before meals, Grace after meals, Our Lady of the Rosary School Prayer
Year 1–2 – Hail Mary, Our Father, Angel of God
Year 3 – The Confiteor, Act of Contrition
Year 4 – The Apostles’ Creed, Prayer of St Richard of Chichester, Come Holy Spirit
Year 5 – Hail Holy Queen, Morning Offering
Year 6 – The Magnificat, Act of Faith, Act of Hope, Act of Love
By praying these time-honoured words together, our school family joins the whole Church in worship and draws closer to God who listens to every prayer.
“So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe that you have received it,
and it will be yours.”
Mark 11:24
