Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and Liturgy at Our Lady of the Rosary School
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
At Our Lady of the Rosary School, prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our community. Guided by our mission of Joy, Excellence, and Service, we help every child to grow in faith, to encounter God through prayer, and to understand that the Gospel shapes who we are and how we live. We are committed to providing high-quality, age-appropriate opportunities for prayer and worship, in accordance with the Prayer and Liturgy Directory.
A School Community of Prayer
Prayer shapes the rhythm of each day and supports the spiritual formation of every child. We provide regular opportunities for pupils to pray in ways that help them to listen, reflect, and respond to God. These include:
-
Daily acts of prayer that draw children into the habit of praising God, reflecting on scripture, and offering intentions.
-
Classroom prayers at key moments of the day, helping children to recognise God’s presence in their learning and relationships.
-
Moments of personal and quiet reflection, enabling children to develop stillness and a deeper awareness of God.
-
Devotions such as the Rosary and Marian prayers, honouring Our Lady and encouraging children to appreciate the prayer traditions of the Church.
These varied forms of prayer support children’s spiritual development and help them understand that prayer is a conversation with God that grows throughout their lives.
Visio DivinaLiturgy and CelebrationWe gather regularly to celebrate the richness of our Catholic faith, recognising that worship is central to school life. Our celebrations include:
-
Whole-school and class Masses, where children participate reverently in the liturgy and grow in their understanding of the Eucharist and the liturgical year.
-
Feast days, liturgical seasons, and Holy Days of Obligation, which are marked with appropriate forms of celebration that foster joy and reverence.
-
Celebrations of the Word, prepared and led by staff and children, supporting pupils to take an active role in proclaiming scripture and leading prayerful reflection.
These celebrations deepen the children’s familiarity with the Church’s liturgical life and help them to recognise the importance of communal worship.
Living Out Our Faith
Prayer and liturgy shape the way we act. Inspired by the Gospel, children are encouraged to recognise their responsibility to serve others and to live out Catholic Social Teaching. Through acts of kindness, charity, and care for creation, pupils learn that faith is expressed through what we do as well as what we say.
We value pupil leadership in prayer and liturgy. Children are supported to plan and lead suitable forms of prayer, make thoughtful responses to scripture, and contribute to the prayer life of the school with confidence and reverence.
At Our Lady of the Rosary, prayer is more than words; it is a daily invitation to draw closer to God. By praying together, celebrating together, and serving together, we deepen our faith and share God’s love with one another and with the wider community.
